The story
How Luminary started, and why we're still small on purpose
Joan grew up in Korçë, Albania, a city an hour from the Greek border with a long reputation for art, culture, and people who take craftsmanship seriously. That reputation wasn't lost on him. He started young: painting, drawing, then Photoshop, then 3D modelling. Visual language was a natural one.
At sixteen, a summer job introduced him to video editing. It never felt like work. The way a cut lands differently depending on where you place it, the way the right piece of music turns footage into something someone cries at. He was hooked immediately. What started as a summer job became a profession, and the profession became a calling.
He spent his early career at a professional studio in Korçë, sharpening his craft across every format: commercials, events, corporate projects. But the work that demanded everything (precision, emotion, storytelling, someone's most important day) was always the wedding films.
His younger brother Kristi had watched him build this from the beginning. In 2019, they went independent together. The plan was simple: offer the international market something the platforms couldn't. Senior editing, personal attention, and a team small enough that the standard never slips.
They were right about the demand. Petri, Lolita, Arjan, and Erina joined as the work grew. Six editors. That's the whole team, and that's deliberate. Some of our clients have been with us for eight years. We think that's because we've never mistaken "more clients" for "a better business."
